Lonsdale Battalion events that took place on 28 October.

1914

  • 3 men recruited at High Hesket.[1]
  • John Gibson of the Y.M.C.A. in Kendal in response to Lord Lonsdale about accommodating recruits at the Y.M.C.A: Our aim is to provide a home from home for the men and to keep them out of temptation’s way. We have organised sing songs, concerts, band entertainments, shooting and billiard competitions, and allow smoking throughout the place [2]

1916

  • Battalion situated at Bouzincourt. General parade of instruction and working parties for the Royal Engineers.[3][4]
  • G.O.C.[5] Haig in company with Officers Commanding Brigade & Divisions, visits billets and also congratulates the Lonsdales Commanding Officer on the state of his Battalion.[4]

1917

  • Battalion situated in the Roubrouck Area carries out a practice attack at dawn, zero hour 5.30am.[6]
  • Church Parades held for Companies during the afternoon.[6]
